Well, according to the
href="http://www.citywriters.com/chalance/2002_03_24_archive.html#11158665">polls it looks
like my name is Saskia. It's not a done deal,
yet, but Saskia is so far ahead of the other choices that I doubt they could ever recover.
I mention this because of course "Saskia" is overly significant (did you expect anything else
from me?). A few years ago, I decided I was going to take a trip to Holland and therefore I
should learn some Dutch, because it's only polite. Devin and I bought some Dutch manuals that
came with the cute little cassette tapes for practice. And we studied about four pages into them
before we sort of put Dutch on the back burner. So I learned how to say a few things. And one of
them is "Mijn naam is Saskia Geroenfeldt." Devin said "The only thing you know how to say is a
lie! Why don't you say 'Mijn naam is Laura Wren'?"
Duh. Because "Saskia Geroenfeldt" is MUCH MORE FUN to say. So for a few weeks I was referred to
as "Saskia" till we forgot the joke and then Devin went on to call me something like "My little
Chalupa" or something equally ridiculous.
Coincidence? Never.
