I spent most of my morning reading this:
http://www.prosoundweb.com/recording/mm/week1/mm.php
It's the diary of a recording engineer who's been sucked into a major label project with basically an unlimited budget and unlimited studio time with a "big name" producer. It's taken them most of six weeks to lay down seven songs. It took Extra Salty TWO DAYS to do the same number. If you read this diary, you'll find out why. It's highly recommended reading if you like laughing. Be forwarned that the grammar and spelling are pretty bad, but the guy's a recording engineer, not a novelist, and he's writing the entries furtively and surreptitiously, so as not to get caught by the band, producer, or label.
I often worried when we were in the studio about whether or not we came off as unprofessional dorks who knew nothing, since we were new at the whole studio thing. But after reading this, I can safely say that we have our shit down, and that nobody's ever going to write this kind of log about us. The worst anyone can say about us is that we talk a lot. We don't even drink much when we're recording, because we recognize that it affects our playing in negative ways.
Speaking of being in the studio, I think we're doing it again this weekend. Finishing up some tracks we started at Tiny with the help of Justin, and transferring everything else to ProTools so we can finish it up ourselves. A good time will be had by all.

(or is it called "moveable typing" now?) Hard as it may be to believe, I even forgot about sex and my go-go boots for several weeks (well, being out of a job might have contributed to that too...) Anyway, this is a pretty cool redesign, I'm jealous! :-)
That's great that you guys have been in the studio again. Has your music been influenced lately by the fact that our country has been hijacked by a 4th-grade bully? Enquiring minds want to know...
And WHEN the hell are you going to have a gig, for crying out loud? We want to see you liiiiiiiive!
Posted by: Talula McPeach on September 6, 2002 12:13 PMI'm trying to pretend that the 4th grade bully doesn't exist, when I write. If I write in anger, everything turns to shit.
And we'll have a gig when we're damn well ready.
Actually, we're not recording after all, but that's another story.
