I got the job I interviewed for. That's all I'm gonna say about it. I start Tuesday. So after a little bit more than a year, I'm finally employed again. Doing something not in my field that I hoped I'd never do again. I almost laughed out loud at when they asked me why I wanted to work for them. I'm like "Look, lady. I don't WANT to work for anyone. I just want a fucking paycheck so I can buy toys. And I can't believe you're asking me that in this economy."
Also yesterday I got to see Guided by Beer...I mean Voices. The New Pornographers opened and as usual I spent most of the time fighting back tears at Neko's voice. It just presses some button inside my brain that says "Cry, now."
Uncle Bob Pollard was drunker than I've EVER seen him, and if you know ANYTHING about GbV, you know that that is a bold statement. He was drinking Jack Daniels along with his requisite cooler of "Bud Heavy", so that's probably why. I'm most disgusted with the fact that Robert Pollard is 40-something, drinks like a fish every night, has a catalog of over 5,000 songs, plays about 50 of them at EVERY SINGLE SHOW and never once forgets any of the lyrics, or sings off-key. I'm a 20-something, I can't drink more than two nights in a row without feeling awful, and I OFTEN forget my lyrics, and if I'm drunk the danger of being off-key is always there. Now, granted, I tend to stop caring, but the fans demand perfect pitch.
Posted by laura at June 21, 2002 06:23 PMHmm, I wonder if he ever performs a capella? That's something I think I would enjoy. Plus then we could see if he really, truly has perfect pitch or not. I kind of don't think he does.
Wish I could have been at that show. But I was at home sick-as-dog. Much better now.
Posted by: Talula McPeach on September 1, 2002 12:22 AMGood luck with your new job! What would your chosen field have been? Radio DJ? Web Goddess? Music Critic? I could see you doing any of those.
Posted by: Talula McPeach on September 1, 2002 12:22 AM My capital-C Chosen field is rockstar, of course. But I had a pretty promising career as a web goddess before the tech bust. And it was stolen from me! STOLEN!
I have been a Radio DJ, and I only liked it for the music aspect. Being an on-air personality was kind of weird.
yeah, dood, what kind of job is this?!??
Posted by: marie on September 1, 2002 12:23 AMOh, and DUH, I keep forgetting to say this. My new job is basically being the entire IT department for a non-profit. The National Writing Project, it is. If you want to know more, ask me.
